FinalRight after the final Portugal - Spain, the Closing Ceremony was carried out in the Pavilhão Municipal Jacinto Correia, still full, where the awards were delivered. Before the national teams, the portuguese delegates João Costa and Manuel Conceição gave trophies to the seven couples of referees that took part of the 9 Men´s Mediterranean Championship and right after the MHC President Francesco Purromuto gave souvenirs to the Members of the Executive Committee of the MHC - Rui Coelho, Ensari Gunal, Nikos Papadopoulos and Marco Tosi Brandi and, also, to the delegates Manuel Conceição and João Costa. 

Next, there was the exchange of souvenirs between MHC President  Francesco Purromuto and the President of the Federation of Norway, Karl Anne Johannessen; then, the Vice-President of City Hall of Lagoa, Rui Correia, received souvenirs from the President of the Portuguese Handball Federation, Henrique Torrinha and from MHC President Francesco Purromuto.

After, the individual awards were delivered: Best Goalkeeper, the spanigh Ignacio Biosca Garcia, received the trophy from the hands of Ensari Gunal; the Best Scorer, nº 16 from Turkey, Simsar Yakup Yasar, was awarded by Nikos Papadopoulos and Belmiro Alves, from Portugal, received the Best Player award, gave by Rui Coelho, MHC Vice President and Eduardo Mendonça, President of Algarve Handball Association.

Right after, the 9 national teams received the respective awards. To the third position, Egypt, the awards were given by Luis Pacheco, from the Portuguese Handball Federation and by Ensari Gunal; the second place, Portugal, received the Silver Medal, delivered by Rui Coelho. To Spain, the Gold Medals were given by Francesco Purromuto, Henrique Torrinha and Rui Correia. 

There was, still, opportunity to exchange souvenirs between Francesco Purromuto and Henrique Torrinha, before the final words of Rui Correia and Francesco Purromuto, that closed another Mediterranean Championship.

Por-Esp finalSpain won, this afternoon, Portugal by 31-19, in the final of the 9th Men´s Mediterranean Championship that today came to an end, in Lagoa, Algarve. The portuguese national team, that accused some tiredness and the weight of the game, got, even though, the best classification ever in this competition. 

After, yesterday, Portugal beat Spanish team by 25-22, tryumph that was worth the presence in the final, the portuguese players led by Dragoslav Punosevac entered the field a little apprehensive, like their were accusing the responsability of the match, played in the full hall Jacinto Correia. The spanish, with an excellent squad, started with full speed and at minute 12, they were winning 2-6. Portugal was making a lot of technical failures, particularly in offensive way, what allowed several counterattacks from Spain, most of them turned out into goal. At the end of first half (20 minutes), the result was enlightening regarding the spanish efficiency: 10-4. 

The first next minutes showed that Portugal, hardly, could make the same show of yesterday. The difficulties in attack kept, the spanish goalkeepers were at an excellent level and it came out into an unbalanced scoreboard. At the end of the second time, Spain was winning 23-13. 

The spanish main weapon was still the counterattack. Spain loaded on third half and Portugal wasn´t able to take the few fails of the spanish squad. The difference was getting bigger, with heavy numbers for the portuguese team.

egy-gre finalEgypt and Greece disputed, early afternoon, the final for 3rd and 4th places. After three minutes with no goals, Greece opened the score in the first period, but quickly Egypt turned it around and led the score (7-2). Befora a greek team without solutions, the egyptians won the first half by 11-4. But the situation has changed during the second half, with Greece improving their attitude and forcing Egypt to slow down, what turned into a draw (7-7). In the third and last half of the match, Egypt took over control once again and won the by 6-5.

Egyt goes home with the Bronze Medal and Greece gets the fourth place.

tun-tur-finalIt was only after the tie by penalties that Turkey won Tunisia by 26-24. At the end regular time of the final for 5th and 6th places, both teams were tied 22-22. Turkey studied the lesson well and, after the last match, yesterday, started full speed and won 10-5. But Tunisia was not to be won and both teams set a new draw (7-7). Turkey did not manage to keep up with Tunisian rhythm, in the last period, and Tunisia won by 10-5.

So, after the tie, Turkey guarantees the fifth place of final classification followed by Tunisia, that gets ths sixth place.
